Pontederia cordata lancifolia needs to be planted well down in water to protect their crowns in winter from frost or ice on the waters surface. Divide in Spring after 2-3 years growth. Cut back leaf stems of Pontederia as soon as they start to fall in Autumn as they have a high cellulose content that will disperse into the water.
