Monty Don on Gardener's World BBC2 this week has started to build a new wildlife area including a pond. It is no surprise to us that the water area in his scheme is central to attracting the maximum number of creatures to his new wildlife garden. Garden ponds help replace some of the lost countryside ponds with new water areas in British gardens.
He has built his pond with a sloping shelf or beach area as well as a flat shelf area to place the pond plants baskets and a deeper area for submerged oxygenating plants and waterlilies. Read more about wildlife ponds.
