Selection of mainly British Native plants chosen to encourage wildlife in small ponds 9 sq ft surface area 3ft x 3ft (1m) or as an add on for an already planted larger pond.
Includes 2 portions Native submerged oxygenators, 4 shallow marginal plants (ready potted), 3 Native floating plants(bareroot) or potted rafting plants.
All plant choices depend on seasonal availability. The British Native oxygenating plants chosen from: Ceratophyllum demersum, Fontinalis antipyretica, Myriophyllum spicatum, Ranunculus aquatilis
The British Native marginal or rafting plants chosen from the following: Alisma plantago-aquatica, Butomus umbellatus, Caltha palustris, Eriophorum angustifolium, Eriophorum latifolium, Lythrum salicaria, Myosotis scorpioides, Potentilla palustris, Ranunculus flammula, Rorippa nasturtium aquaticum, Sagittaria sagittifolia, Veronica beccabunga. NonNatives chosen from: Iris versicolor, Mentha cervina, Pontederia cordata.
Plants chosen will include a mix of rafting and emergent plants to encourage breeding newts and dragonflies, as well as providing surface cover (See Planting a wildlife pond page). This scheme does not include a waterlily but we would recommend you add one from the waterlily pages to suit the size and scale of your pond.
The plants will come wrapped individually in their mesh baskets and will need to be placed in the pond at the correct depths for each different species. There will be a selection of depths involved, including oxygenators for the deeper water, and both rafting and upright plants so that each area begins to create a habitat for a different wildlife group. Good plants for pollinating bees, hoverflies and butterflies can also be included. (See Planting a wildlife pond page)
