This week we have often been asked "Can I plant my pond now?"
The Garden Centres say "No" we are informed. This is not because it is not possible to plant a pond now but rather more to do with getting the Xmas decorations out in the Garden Centre and not buying in more stock from the wholesalers at this late stage of their season.
Some online retailers are not selling bareroot plants now as there is not time for these to root firmly into their baskets before Autumn.
Neither of these 2 reasons apply to us. Our plants are already rooted into their mesh baskets and if we do not sell them this Autumn they will stay here with us in our Nursery troughs until Spring and be sent out to customers then.
We liken the purchasing of our plants at this time of year to "moving home". They are growing in the Nursery, are picked for an order, wrapped and boxed to enable shipping as wet plants in a dry cardboard box to be unwrapped by the customer and placed straight back into water again, at the correct depth of water, in their new pond or bog situation.
So in answer to the question "Can I plant my pond now?" - the answer is "Yes, this is not a problem with our ready potted plants."
