beware grass cuttings with a pond next to a lawn

Maintenance for this month of June involves trying to reduce the amount of potential rotting vegetation in the pond water including grass cuttings that have a habit of finding their way into pond water as the lawn gets cut more often. They may only seem like small blades of grass as they float on the water surface but they all add up.

Remember any plant matter that decays into the water will start to add to the compost heap at the bottom of the pond and this will only lead to a nutrient high and increase the chances of blanketweed in your pond.

Also the clearing out of any dead stems from the oxygenating plants especially the Elodea crispa.
