- Description
- Delivery
A natural treatment utilising micro-organisms grown on barley straw to control filamentous algae growth (blanketweed) by starving the algae of nutrients. A replacement for Extract of Barleystraw.
Barley-bio Algae Control does not contain any chemicals and is safe for pets, plants, wildlife and children. You cannot overdose this natural product and cause harm.
Supplied in - 250ml bottle
Treats - Blanketweed and green water. If you have been treating pond algae with Barley Bio and it's still there in hot weather then increase the dose frequency, not the dose size
Directions and Dosage:
For existing algae problem - 125ml per 4500 litres (1000 gallons) of water. As preventative measure - 20ml per 4500 litres (1000 gallons) of water once a week through spring/summer.
For smaller ponds - Use minimum initial dose of 50ml and minimum weekly dose of 10ml for any pond containing less than 2250 litres (500 gallons). The volume of our container ponds are: 60cm wide = 45 litres (10 gallons) and 80cm wide = 105 litres (23 gallons).
To calculate the volume of your pond - length x width x depth in feet x 6.25 = volume in gallons
Will my plants arrive potted?
- Yes, all our 9cm, 11cm and 23cm Marginal Pond Plants, Deep Water plants and Waterillies will be sent out to you pre-planted in a mesh basket with our aquatic clay soil
- Bunched and loose Oxygenators will be sent out bareroot or bunched with a weight and can be dropped straight into the pond as they are delivered.
- Moist plants are sent out in solid pots that you would remove before planting into the soil.
How does my order arrive?
- Plant orders are dispatched to UK destinations only but we cannot send to Northern Ireland. Your order will be picked in the Nursery and will be sealed in airtight, waterproof packaging to keep it fresh during transit. Please unwrap all plants from the packaging as soon as possible and place in the situation/depth specified on each plant ticket.
Is your packaging sustainable?
- We shred paper and cardboard as box filler. It's brought to us by a local business that cannot reuse it.
Our black bag box-lining is made from recycled material and is recyclable. - The plastic bags (LDPE) we wrap the plants in are classed as 'soft plastic' recycling code 4. Recyclable at recycling points in supermarkets in store.
- We do need a plastic bag for our pond plants to arrive with you in good, damp condition. We have tested biodegradable options and found they do not hold water. The 'soft plastic' option is the best solution we have found.
- We need to keep the cardboard box dry. A wet cardboard box will not travel successfully in the courier system.
- Our cardboard boxes are new and specially sized to tightly hold our plant basket sizes so minimizing wasted space.
- We use the smallest box possible to transport your order to you. They are strong and would be reusable to resend parcels or to put on a compost heap.
- Our portions of Hornwort oxygenator are measured in a second-hand food tray but multiple portions are sent in one LDFE plastic bag.
- The mail-pack bags from APC contain recycled materials and are again recyclable as LDPE.
