Gardener's World Nick Bailey visited the Moist plant borders at RHS Harlow Carr Gardens. He called them Bog Plants but we have them listed as Moist Plants as they do not want to stand in waterlogged bog conditions in Winter. They look great on the edge of water giving protective cover for amphibians.
You can find the plants mentioned on TV in our Moist Plants pages:
- Darmera peltata - the pink domed flowers showing before the large round leaves that later turn red
- Candelabra Primula - Primula beesiana , Primula bulleyana and Primula japonica cross pollinate to produce a huge range of flower colours in 3 tiered whorls
- Ligularia dentata - large purple tinted leaf of 'Desdemona' with orange daisy shaped flowers
More plants to encourage bees to visit at this time of year:
- Lychnis flos-cuculi Masses of pink flowers for the pollinators and reduced to £2 per 9cm pot
- Lychnis flos-cuculi White Robin White flowered form of Ragged Robin and reduced to £2 per 9cm pot
- Filipendula ulmaria Meadowsweet is still to bloom this year
