- Delivery
Small pond plant starter kit chosen by us to encourage wildlife in small ponds. We recommend Mainly British Native if you are looking for long season interest for butterflies and bees. We also know some British Native plants are too vigorous for a small pond so our choice of plants for this size pond is limited in British Native .
Pond size - 1m² - 2m² (9ft² - 20ft²)
Attracts - Dragonflies, bees, butterflies, hoverflies and amphibians (including newts)
Contents
- 2 x Oxygenating plant portions (bareroot - still available in this scheme)
- 4 x Upright shelf plants (rooted in aquatic soil in 11cm mesh baskets)
- 2 x Rafting shelf plants (rooted in aquatic soil in 9cm mesh baskets)
Choose between
- Only British Native plants
- Mainly British Native plants - our favoured option for larger plant choice & longer flowering season
Extra info - Each plant will come individually wrapped with its own planting instructions ticket, refer to individual plants for maintenance details. All plant choices depend on seasonal availability.
Any specific requests or useful information that you think we could use to help tailor your scheme to your needs can be left in the general comments box when going through checkout.
This scheme does not include a waterlily but we recommend you add one from the waterlily pages to suit the size and scale of your pond. Also look at Barleystraw minibales or Barley Bio Algae Control liquid to add to your pond to help algae control, Chlorine Guard if you need to fill the pond with tapwater and Pond Revive to kick start the bacterial activity of a new pond with some additional micro-organisms.
Will my plants arrive potted?
- Yes, all our 9cm, 11cm and 23cm Marginal Pond Plants, Deep Water plants and Waterillies will be sent out to you pre-planted in a mesh basket with our aquatic clay soil
- Bunched and loose Oxygenators will be sent out bareroot or bunched with a weight and can be dropped straight into the pond as they are delivered.
- Moist plants are sent out in solid pots that you would remove before planting into the soil.
How does my order arrive?
- Plant orders are dispatched to UK destinations only but we cannot send to Northern Ireland. Your order will be picked in the Nursery and will be sealed in airtight, waterproof packaging to keep it fresh during transit. Please unwrap all plants from the packaging as soon as possible and place in the situation/depth specified on each plant ticket.
Is your packaging sustainable?
- We shred paper and cardboard as box filler. It's brought to us by a local business that cannot reuse it.
Our black bag box-lining is made from recycled material and is recyclable. - The plastic bags (LDPE) we wrap the plants in are classed as 'soft plastic' recycling code 4. Recyclable at recycling points in supermarkets in store.
- We do need a plastic bag for our pond plants to arrive with you in good, damp condition. We have tested biodegradable options and found they do not hold water. The 'soft plastic' option is the best solution we have found.
- We need to keep the cardboard box dry. A wet cardboard box will not travel successfully in the courier system.
- Our cardboard boxes are new and specially sized to tightly hold our plant basket sizes so minimizing wasted space.
- We use the smallest box possible to transport your order to you. They are strong and would be reusable to resend parcels or to put on a compost heap.
- Our portions of Hornwort oxygenator are measured in a second-hand food tray but multiple portions are sent in one LDFE plastic bag.
- The mail-pack bags from APC contain recycled materials and are again recyclable as LDPE.
